Mayele ahead of Downs clash: If we can get good result in SA...

Pyramids FC star striker Fiston Mayele has issued a confident warning to Mamelodi Sundowns ahead of their upcoming two-legged CAF Champions League final.

The Egyptian side will face the South African giants in the first leg at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Tshwane on Saturday, 24 May, with the return leg set for Sunday, 1 June at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo.

Pyramids kept their dream of winning their first-ever Champions League trophy after beating Orlando Pirates in the semi-finals to reach the final.

The progression to the final has brought some hope to the Pyramids, who are also having a great run in the Egyptian Premier League as they fight for the title with Al Ahly.

Despite acknowledging the strength of Miguel Cardoso’s star-studded team, Mayele is convinced Pyramids can secure a vital away win in Pretoria before sealing their first-ever Champions League title on home soil.

"I believe that this season we set very high standards in the league and in the CAF Champions League to win both titles, but the matches we lost against Al-Ahly Bank and Pharco hurt us greatly and were the reason we fell short of the title," Mayele said, as quoted by WinWin.

"Last season, we were eliminated from the CAF Champions League and the league, so we didn't achieve anything. The Egypt Cup was the only way to salvage the season. That's when the opportunity came, and we reached the final.

"I scored the goal that allowed us to win the Egypt Cup. I was very satisfied and happy with that season. Finishing the season with a title is very important.

"The final is something everyone dreams of playing. We are here in the final against Sundowns, a very good team that plays beautiful football," he added.

"We can't talk about tactical matters now, we'll only talk about the morale of the two matches. We'll do everything we can to manage the match calmly there on their home ground, and if we can get a good result, we'll be able to finish the job on our home ground, so we'll stay focused until the end."
