‘Salum is the highest-paid star in Tanzanian football’

Azam FC's CEO has claimed that Feisal Salum is now the highest-paid player in Tanzanian football after turning down potential suitors.

Feisal Salum will remain at Azam FC, the club’s CEO Abdulkarim Amin Popat has confirmed.

The Tanzanian playmaker had been heavily linked with a move away, with clubs such as Chiefs, Simba SC and MC Alger among those rumoured to be interested in securing his signature.

It has now been confirmed that Salum will stay at Azam, and he has even extended his contract by a further year, putting an end to all speculation.

According to Tanzanian outlet Soka La Bongo, Azam chief Popat said: "The Fei Toto issue was not as simple as people thought, but it also wasn’t as complicated as reported on social media and through various rumours.

"Fei Toto never once came to us to say he wanted to leave. There was one foreign club interested in him, but he himself never declared that he wanted to leave as it was being suggested.

"What was on the table was a contract that he had not yet signed, and people failed to understand that it works the same way as any other employment contract: both parties must agree before it is signed. If there are clauses not agreed upon, the contract cannot be signed.

"Today I can officially say this matter is closed. He has extended his contract by one year. His previous deal was due to expire in 2026, but this extension means he will stay with Azam until 2027.

"It is a much-improved contract compared to the initial one, making him the highest-paid player in Tanzanian football, whether local or foreign."
