Mako's surprise confession over Chiefs move

Paseka Mako has revealed a key factor behind his move to Kaizer Chiefs from Soweto foes Orlando Pirates and opened up on his Man-of-the-Match performance against Golden Arrows.

Chiefs continued their great start to the season with a 1-0 victory over Golden Arrows at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday courtesy of a Flavio Silva strike.

Mako, who was making only his second appearance, proved vital in both defence and attack, and it was little surprise when he was awarded the Man of the Match accolade.

His switch from Pirates, where his contract was not renewed, allowing him to sign a pre-contract with Amakhosi, remains a curious point of discussion.

While the move may have caught many by surprise, the diminutive wingback has revealed that it has always been his family’s wish to see him in the famous Gold and Black jersey.

"I would like to thank the Chairman, coach, technical team, my teammates, and everyone who helped me win Man of the Match," Mako said on SuperSport TV after the match.

"Coach (Nasreddine) Nabi told me that I have to work hard here because we have good players like (Bradley) Cross and (Nkanyiso) Shinga, so everyone has to work hard.

"It's a team effort, not an individual effort. I would love for us to maintain consistency because the league is a marathon.

"I am happy because this is the team that my family supports at home. Even my grandfather wanted me to play for Kaizer Chiefs. I wish he were still alive, but wherever he is, he is happy," added Mako.

The side will be next in action after the FIFA break to face off with log leaders Sekhukhune United at FNB Stadium on 16 September.
