An Egyptian football legend has pointed to Jose Riveiro’s success with Orlando Pirates as a reason for Al Ahly associates to support the Spanish coach.
Riveiro’s future at the Egyptian Premier League giants remains uncertain following a disappointing start to the 2025/26 season.

Several Red Devils supporters, club legends, and even some board members have seemingly criticised the Spanish tactician.
Ahly have managed just one win and two draws in their opening league matches, and they are set to face reigning CAF Champions League winners Pyramids FC on Saturday, a fixture that could prove decisive for Riveiro’s future at the club.
Despite the mounting pressure, Ahly legend and current journalist Ahmed Shobeir has called for patience and support for Riveiro, expressing confidence that the coach will turn things around.
Shobeir pointed to Riveiro’s impressive record at the Buccaneers, where he clinched five major domestic trophies before making the move to the 12-time CAF Champions League winners in April.
"The campaign against Riveiro is still ongoing, and I received a message mocking him, but I will say it clearly, Riveiro is a coach who has a mindset, even if he leaves the team," Shobier said per Tahiamasr.
"This is not a new issue for him, because at the beginning of his career in South Africa, he went through the same phase.

"Many people criticized him in the first two years, but he continued to work hard and develop his ideas until people began to respect him and describe him as a professor."
"Riveiro is working on building an integrated system within Al-Ahly, not just on quick results. He must have full support from everyone, because if he has the right environment, he will be able to achieve great success and leave his mark on the club's history."
