Ahly stance on Pitso return amidst Riveiro's situation

Al Ahly's stance on a potential return for Pitso Mosimane has reportedly been revealed as pressure mounts on current head coach José Riveiro following a slow start to the new season.

Riveiro has come under intense scrutiny after Ahly managed just one win and two draws in their opening three 2025/26 Egyptian Premier League campaign.

The unconvincing results have sparked frustration amongst the Red Devils’ fans and club legends, leading to growing speculation over the Spanish coach’s future.

In the midst of this uncertainty, Mosimane’s name has resurfaced in Egyptian football circles, with suggestions that he could make a sensational return to the Egyptian powerhouse.

Some of the club’s supporters have even taken to social media to voice their support for the former head coach, calling for his return should Riveiro be dismissed.

Jingle, as the South African highly-rated manager is fondly known, spent almost two years at Ahly between 2020 and 2022. He had joined the club from Mamelodi Sundowns.

However, according to a report from Egyptian publication News Room, a Mosimane comeback is highly unlikely.

The report has stated that the idea of reappointing the three-time CAF Champions League-winning coach has been completely ruled out, branding the ongoing rumours as entirely unfounded.

As for Riveiro, it is reported that Ahly president Mahmoud El Khatib and his board members will hold a meeting with the coach and his technical staff to address the team’s current struggles and discuss the way forward.
