With the French giants now aiming to become the undisputed best club in the world—according to FIFA, at least—there’s more than just a handful of South Africans who’ve had the privilege of sharing the pitch with them.
Among the first South African footballers to face PSG was Germiston-born star Pierre Issa during the 1996/97 Ligue 1 season.
The retired centre-back played five matches for Olympique Marseille against PSG, with his side recording two wins, two draws, and one defeat in those encounters, according to Transfermarkt.
While most of these South African stars featured during their time in Ligue 1, Bafana Bafana legend Benni McCarthy played against PSG twice in the group stages of the 2004/05 Champions League while at FC Porto.
Other noteworthy stars to share the pitch with Les Parisiens include Lebo Mothiba, Lebogang Phiri, and Bongani Zungu – see the full list in the gallery above!
