Pitso Mosimane downplays Mamelodi Sundowns need to delve into transfer market

The Brazilians have had a fairly restrained off-season period as far as signings go, apart from the marquee signing of Bafana Bafana midfielder Andile Jali, who was snapped un on a free.

The signings of Jose Ali Meza and Toni Silva were both deals done in advance, according to Mosimane, with the anticipation of Khama Billiat and Percy Tau potentially leaving the club.

Having already compensated for both departures, ‘Jingles’ says they are not looking to chase players at this stage, but could still sign a couple who have become unexpectedly available.

“We don’t sign a lot, I think you know that. Look at Orlando Pirates – they’ve brought in nine new players,” Mosimane tells snl24.com/kickoff.

“That’s not us, we’re no longer doing that. We buy our players in advance, if I have to tell you. Toni we bought earlier; [Katlego] Otladisa we bought earlier.

“So, we would rather get them earlier than expected, so that at this time we are not looking around, scratching our heads and trying to find who we can get.

“But, there’s always players you never thought could be available, and you never planned to go for them but then you snap them up. It’s an unexpected opportunity.

“If Messi is tired of Barca, we’ll always sign him, you know what I’m trying to say?”

Should they come across an opportunity of such a nature then the club could well pull out the cheque book again, but Mosimane emphasises that there is no urgent need for more signings.

“You have to understand, there was expectations of Khama leaving, expectations of Percy leaving, so you have to make sure that when it happens you’re not looking around,” he adds.

“If you are, because you still haven’t acquired someone, as long as you know who that person is [that you are trying to get].

“So, we’ll probably sign one or maybe two – I think there’s an opportunity for about two.“

Sundowns are expected to snap up Cape Town City winger Lyle Lakay, who is being strongly linked with a switch to Chloorkop, after the Citizens brought in former Platinum Stars winger Gift Links from Egyptian side Pyramids FC.
