Sundowns are in the process of remodelling as they look to terminate the contracts of up to five players during the current transfer window.
The tranfer activity at Chloorkop started as early as December 16, when it was confirmed that striker Leonardo Castro would depart to Kaizer Chiefs.
Defender Kwanda Mngonyama was last week shipped out to Cape Town City, said to be separate to Aubrey Ngoma's move in the opposite direction.
Now, according to a source, The Brazilians are ready to release utility player Asavela Mbekile and four others who have been deemed surplus to requirements.
"About five players are expected to leave Sundowns this month, including Asavela Mbekile," revealed the source.
"These players are ones that haven't been playing regularly and are no longer needed at the club."
It is thought that the list could include goalkeeper Thela Ngobeni, midfielders Sibusiso Kumalo and Mogakolodi Ngele, as well as striker Cuthbert Malajila.
