Kjell Jonevret reveals preferred style of play at Orlando Pirates

The Swedish tactician was today unveiled as the Buccaneers' 'saviour' after a dismal showing so far this season, which has seen them go nine consecutive matches without a win.

While the former Vikings and Djurgadens mentor refused to be labelled "messiah", he has promised to bring attacking football to The Ghost but also hopes to develop a truly unique approach in the long run.

"Full speed forward; tighten up backward," joked Jonevret, when asked what type of football he brings. "I think we should try to find the Orlando Pirates way of playing football.

"I like to have a game, if you're talking numbers [formations] like 4-4-2, 4-3-3, to me, that's just numbers.

"I like to play offensive football. But the base, I've always [felt] you need a good defence, but I like to have a classic game of football."

Jonevret further admitted that, while the football played in Scandinavia is largely similar across the region, he needs to develop a new way of playing in order to be successful in South Africa.

"In Scandinavia they work a lot with possession and also counter, counter, counter [counter-attack football]," he added.

"I think we should find our own way to play and hopefully it's going to be successful."

With the Soweto Derby less than two weeks away, the Stockholm-born coach admits they will quickly need to find their rhythm before they clash with their rivals.

"If not [succesfully in the] first week, I think we have to do it in the second week because it's Kaizer Chiefs in the second week, hey? So we don't have too much time," he concluded, showing great awareness of the importance of the derby.
