Makgalwa praised for adaptability

Keletso Makgalwa, a finalist for the 2024/2025 Footballer of the Season award, has been praised for his resilience during a challenging period in his football career.

Makgalwa's journey began with promise when he signed with Mamelodi Sundowns in August 2017. However, after his first season, he was loaned out to Maritzburg United in August 2018. After six months with Maritzburg, he returned to Sundowns in January 2019 but struggled to secure game time. As a result, he was loaned again, this time to Moroka Swallows.

In 2022, he returned to Sundowns but was immediately loaned out to TS Galaxy FC. After five months, the Mpumalanga club sent him back to Sundowns.

In January 2023, he accepted a short loan move to Cape Town All Stars, which lasted until the end of the 2022/2023 season. Subsequently, Sundowns decided to allow him to leave.

He then spent one season with Motsepe Foundation Championship club Upington City before joining Sekhukhune United in the Betway Premiership, where he has since flourished.

Makgalwa is in the running for the Footballer of the Season award and analyst Junior Khanye.

"Keletso Makgalwa deserves to be one of the three nominees for the Footballer of the Season award. That boy worked hard and proved that his talent is genuine."

He continued, "It was unfortunate that he was released by Sundowns. He performed well there when Pitso Mosimane was the coach. However, he was competing with experienced players at a young age.

"He showed great determination by dropping down to the Motsepe Foundation Championship to start anew when the odds were against him. Now, he has returned to the PSL with Sekhukhune United.

"Well done to Sekhukhune United for giving him a chance and playing him to his strengths."
