Tokelo Rantie's season at AFC Bournemouth is over

The 25-year-old, who has featured for just 38 minutes in just three substitute appearances for the Cherries in the League this season, was taken off in a FA Cup encounter against Birmingham last month – his only start for the club this season – after suffering a knock in just the 39th minute.

The former Malmo and Orlando Pirates forward has not seen any action since, and after being ruled out for six weeks, has now been left out of his club’s 25-man squad for the remainder of the campaign.

A quartet of new January signings have made Bournemouth’s roster as Rantie misses out.

“Callum Wilson and Max Gradel have both been named in Eddie Howe's 25 man squad for the remainder of the Barclays Premier League campaign,” read a statement on the club’s official website.

“January signings Benik Afobe, Lewis Grabban, Juan Iturbe and Rhoys Wiggins are also included, whilst Tokelo Rantie is the only current member of the first team squad who drops out through injury.”

Rantie’s injury scuppered any chances of a move away from the English club during the January transfer window, yet now side-lined for the remainder of the season, it remains to be seen whether not Rantie will see out his contract with the Premier League side. Rantie’s current deal expires in June 2017.
