SA Players Abroad Wrap: Kamohelo Mokotjo and Luther Singh on target

KGAGELO SEKGOTA/ JAISEN CLIFFORD
South African duo Sekgota and Clifford both featured in the Lithuanian season curtain-raiser, the Super Cup as last year’s Cup winners were humbled 5-0 by league winners Suduva. Sekgota started the game, while Clifford was introduced with 14 minutes to go.

KEAGAN DOLLY/ LEBOGANG PHIRI
In the battle of two South Africans in France, Dolly’s Montpellier hosted Phiri’s Guingamp in their Ligue 1 showdown. Both were introduced as second-half substitutes, Dolly in the 61st minute and Phiri four minutes later, as Montpellier came from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw to remain sixth in the league, an Guingamp remain 10th.

HAASHIM DOMINGO/ THIBANG PHETE
Domingo was introduced onto the pitch in the second half for his 19th league appearance of the season, as Vitoria Guimaraes made it six wins a row with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over second-placed Academica. Phete remained on the bench as an unused substitute. Guimaraes are now up to 10th place in the Portuguese Second Division after 25 games played.

KYLE JACOBS
Jacobs started his 17th league match of the campaign as Queen of the South drew 1-1 with fourth-placed Greenock Morton, leaving them sixth on the table after 24 matches played.

ANDILE JALI
Jali picked up a first-half yellow card, but featured for the full 90 minutes as Oostende drew 0-0 away at Antwerp. The solitary point means Jali’s side drop down one place to 12th following other results in the league, while Antwerp sit seventh.

GIFT LINKS/PHAKAMANI MAHLAMBI
In another South African head-to-head battle, this time in Egypt, Phakamani Mahlambi’s Al Ahly narrowly edged Gift Links’ Alassiouty Sport 1-0 to make it 11 victories on the trot in all competitions. Mahlambi and Links both started the encounter, with Links substituted off in the 83rd minute, and Mahlambi in the 86th. Al Ahly are now 17 points clear at the top of the table after 24 games, while Alassiouty sit 12th.

MAY MAHLANGU
Mahlangu made his 20th league appearance of the season in Romania, playing the entire game as Dinamo Bucuresti let a two-goal lead slip to draw 2-2 with second-placed Steaua Bucuresti. Dinamo are now fifth in the league after 25 matches played.

LEBOGANG MANYAMA
Manyama was again nowhere to be seen in Konyaspor’s match day squad as they drew 1-1 with fourth-placed Besiktas, taking them one point above the relegation zone to 15th in the Turkish standings. Manyama last played a league game for the club on 23 December, having missed the last 10 matches in succession.

KAMOHELO MOKOTJO
Mokotjo bagged his first goal in 23 league appearances this season, netting the opener for Brentford in their 2-0 win over Sunderland. Brentford are still mid-table in 10th position after 32 games, six points behind Bristol City who lie in the last promotion play-off spot.

LEBO MOTHIBA
Mothiba made his second appearance for Lille following his January return, playing the full 90 minutes as his side came back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with fourth-placed Olympique Lyon, leaving them 17th on the log, one point above Amiens in the relegation play-off spot.

KGOSIETSILE NTLHE
Ntlhe was an unused substitute on the bench as League One club Rochdale netted a late equaliser to draw 2-2 with Tottenham Hotspur in their FA Cup tie, forcing a fifth-round replay against the Premier League side.

RICARDO NUNES
Nunes’ Pogon Szczecin suffered a 13th league loss of the season, going down 2-0 to third-placed Lech Poznan as they remain bottom of the log after 23 games.

THULANI SERERO
Serero made his 20th league appearance of the season, playing the full 90 minutes as Vitesse lost 2-1 at home to Excelsior, as they remain seventh in the Eredivisie.

LUTHER SINGH
Singh continued his good scoring form, netting his eighth of the season, but in a losing cause as Sporting Braga II went down 3-1 to third-placed Arouca. Braga are 19th on the log in the Portuguese Second Division, three points above bottom-placed Real and a point behind Gil Vicente in the last play-off berth.

BONGANI ZUNGU
Zungu is still recovering from injury and was unable to take to the field for Amiens, who played out a 0-0 draw with 16th-placed Toulouse. Amiens are in 18th spot in Ligue 1, currently lying in the relegation play-off berth with 12 league matches remaining.
