FCSB boss hits back: Ngezana can do whatever he wants

FCSB owner Gigi Becali has finally broken his silence on Siyabonga Ngezana, after the South African star made headlines in Romania for being spotted at a festival in the early hours of the morning.

Ngezana’s 2025/26 season is officially underway, with FCSB opening their campaign with a 3–1 win over Inter Club d’Escaldes in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League.

The defender played the full match, despite reports ahead of the fixture suggesting he may have landed in hot water with the club’s management over an off-field incident.

Over the weekend, Romanian publications claimed that Ngezana was spotted at a festival held at the National Arena in Romania at around 4am, just hours after FCSB lifted the Romanian Super Cup.

This prompted several Romanian media outlets to speculate that Ngezana could face disciplinary action from club owner Gigi Becali, who had reportedly already warned the South African about his off-field behaviour in previous years.

However, Becali appears unbothered by the situation, insisting Ngezana is free to do as he pleases outside football, provided he remains committed and performs on the pitch.

"They were at the festival for an hour, Ngezana and Baba (Alhassan)," Becali told Digi Sport.

"Ngezana can do whatever he wants, as long as he performs. If he doesn't perform, he can sit on the bench.

"Well, Ngezana could go without sleep for two days and he'd still get past any striker — he's a rock.

"What matters to me is what he does in training camp and during team activities. I'm not going to keep tabs on him in his free time. They can do whatever they want in their spare time."
