Ayanda Sishuba, the son of former Bafana Bafana midfielder Asanda Sishuba made his debut for Ligue 1 side RC Lens over the weekend.
17-year-old Sishuba was handed his first start for the senior team when he came on as a second-half substitute during the side's 0-0 draw against Le Havre on Saturday.
The 17-year-old had been with the side's reserve side for the last two seasons where he's impressed. The left-footer was called up to join the senior team at the start of the 2022/23 season after signing a five year deal with the French outfit in December last year.
Born in Belgium to Belgian mother and a South African father, the teenager has dual citizenship to represent either of the two countries, but South Africa could miss out on the talented youngster with the Belgian youth national team having already handed him first youth international all up to the Belgium U17 side.
However, at his green age, he can still make the switch to represent South Africa should the South African Football Federation (SAFA) act swiftly in roping in the player.
The federation has come under criticism recently over failure to secure some of the country's talents that ply their trade abroad.
A recent example is one of South African-born Keanu Baccus, the brother of former Kaizer Chiefs player Kearyn Baccus. The 24-year-old represented Australia at the Qatar World Cup.
