Seven uncapped players included in latest Bafana Bafana squad

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has named seven uncapped players in his provisional squad for next month's double-header against Ethiopia.

On Tuesday morning, Broos announced a provisional 34-man squad for South Africa's upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia in October, with no fewer than eight uncapped players featuring in his extended selection.

New Orlando Pirates signing Goodman Mosele is included in that group after excelling during the early stages of the DStv Premiership with the Buccaneers. The 21-year-old, who won the PSL Young Player of the Year award in 2020, is included in the squad after scoring twice in four league appearances for the Soweto giants since his move from Baroka.

He could be joined in midfield by the uncapped duo of Sphephelo Sithole and Jesse Donn, the former of whom withdrew from the previous squad after testing positive for Covid-19. Sithole has been a regular for Portuguese Primeira Liga side Belenenses, where he plays alongside countryman Thibang Phete, while Donn earns a call-up after starring for SuperSport United.

Elsewhere, the impressive form of Cape Town City duo Terrence Mashego and Mduduzi Mdantsane has also been recognised. Mashego has been one of the standout left-backs in the country this season and, which included a Man of the Match showing against SuperSport United, while teammate Mdantsane has also impressed, netting twice in five matches across all competitions.

Meanwhile, Golden Arrows' Sifiso Mlungwana and Thabani Zuke have also been included. Mlungwana faces stiff competition from captain Ronwen Williams, Bruce Bvuma and Veli Mothwa for a spot in goal, while Zuke earns his call-up after a string of consistent displays, dating back to last season.

Broos will have ultimately have to axe 11 players from his provisional selection in order to name the final 23-man squad who will do battle against the East African opponents in Ethiopia on 9 October, and in South Africa three days later.
