Hugo Broos: I need to have a talk with Percy Tau

Percy Tau enjoyed a blistering start to life with reigning African champions Al Ahly after scoring on debut and looked set to enjoy a prolific campaign after netting five times in seven league matches by the turn of the year.

However, a serious muscle injury sustained in January, which ruled the Bafana Bafana star out of the FIFA Club World Cup, curtailed his progress and has seen him struggle to find top gear, and indeed a regular starting berth since his return to action late last month.

Tau's situation in recent weeks have been noted by national team coach Hugo Broos who admitted that he is concerned to see his go-to forward not performing at the same level he has become accustomed to.

"Percy has a little bit of a problem at the moment," Broos said during his squad announcement on SABC Sport. "It's not the Percy Tau that we are used to seeing. I know him very well from his time in Belgium.

"Before Christmas, he had a few injuries and he didn't play for a few weeks so I thought, 'Okay, this is the reason,' because he didn't have the tempo of the games, but now I saw him playing last weekend and it's not Percy Tau.

"I don't know what's happening with him but I will talk to him because I need to know. He can help us a lot with his talent but we need the best Percy Tau, so we will see."
