The South Africa national football team is set to play Morocco on Thursday, 9 June in the first of their Group K qualifiers for the 2023 CAF Africa Cup of Nations.
Bafana Bafana were also scheduled to play neighbours Zimbabwe during the international break but the fixture fell away after the Warriors were prohibited from competing by FIFA due to government interference.
National team coach Hugo Broos has since revealed that his side could play a make-up friendly against Iran on 13 June in order to compensate for the missing fixture on the calendar.
"We had some offers [to be played] before the end of May from Iraq and Brazil, but it was not possible. I didn't have the players because there were still league games and there were still cup games," Broos said.
"This is something that does not happen in other countries but here, in South Africa, one week before [the international break] there are still things to do. So we couldn't have the players.
"Morocco [played a game against the United States on Wednesday] and have been together since the 26th of May, and we wanted a game also, but for this weekend, it is impossible because all the other African countries are playing their qualifiers.
"There is a big chance that on the 13th of June we can play against Iran. We can maybe play in Doha and because we travel to Morocco via Doha, when we come back we can stay a few days in Doha and play there, but it is not definitive.
"If it is like that it will be a very good thing for us because we were looking for games – Namibia, Algeria... but Algeria wanted us to play in Algeria, to go from Morocco to Oran and I know what it is like in Oran because I worked in Algeria.
"So, you can go there, but when you are coming back to South Africa you are maybe going two days on the way, so it was not an option because they didn't want to come here. We had several options, but it didn't match and I really hope this game with Iran can be done."
It was also confirmed that the Bafana Bafana squad will depart for Morocco on the evening of Saturday, 4 June, ahead of their encounter against the North African giants next week.
