COSAFA Cup: Rowan Human hoping to impress international scouts with Bafana Bafana

Maritzburg United midfielder Rowan Human is hoping to catch the attention of international scouts at the COSAFA Cup after being named in the Bafana Bafana squad for the competition.

Human, 21, is one of the hordes of uncapped players who have been included in South Africa's squad for this month's COSAFA Cup after coach Helman Mkhalele elected to name a predominantly U23 team for the competition.

Speaking ahead of the regional tournament, the Maritzburg United midfielder revealed that he is hoping to leave a good impression in Durban in the hopes that his performance catches the attention of international scouts.

"Opportunities for one to earn a move abroad come when you're playing for your national team," Human told the SAFA media team. "Most scouts make the effort to follow all these international matches or tournaments and scout the best possible talents that would fit in well in their respective clubs.

"It is always important for one to always give it their best because you never know who is watching. I intend to do exactly that in this year's edition."

Human, who previously spent a year on loan in Israel with Beitar Tel Aviv Bat Yam from Maccabi Tel Aviv, also shared his excitement at taking part in the annual event, which hosts South Africa enter as reigning champions following last year's triumph over Senegal.

"It is always good to represent your country, regardless of the age group," he added. "Some of the players who played in that COSAFA Men's Under-20 Championship are also part of this current group of Bafana Bafana players.  This shows that there's been growth in our respective developments and individual careers, and I'm really pleased with that.

"We go into this year's tournament as defending champions and there is, what I call, positive pressure for us to go all the way and defend our title. I have worked with coach Helman Mkhalele before and there is a good understanding between us as players and what he wants us to achieve. We want to defend our title."
