South Africa collected all six points against their 182-ranked opponents in back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Molefi Ntseki's side won 2-0 in the first leg on Friday before completing the job with a rather wasteful 4-2 victory on Monday afternoon.
Asked if by scoring two goals Themba Zwane has now produced what he should be for Bafana Bafana, Motlohi was not getting excited.
"It's still a bit tough man. Yes we are playing but the likes of [Bongani] Zungu and Zwane are on and off. When they are in the squad you ask yourself what is happening with them," Motlohi tells snl24.com/kickoff.
"You know what, I will not take this game that seriously because it was not even televised. But man, that team [Sao Tome] is not a good team. It was like playing against these small teams.
"We want to see players perform well when we play against the likes of Algeria, Egypt, Ghana, Nigeria, that's where I will judge them. And when we play against those teams these players are nowhere to be seen.
"You will not see them scoring those hat-tricks or two goals. Not against the likes of Lesotho where they can score seven goals, no. At the moment I'm not yet convinced."
Motlohi was even critical of Percy Tau's performances in the recent qualifiers despite him taking his overall goals tally for Bafana Bafana to 12 in 29 caps.
"I was not impressed by his performance because of the opponents we were playing against. Please, I'm begging you, don't take Monday's game seriously he adds.
"Let's just forget about it and talk after the Ghana game. That team we were playing against was full of unknowns and ordinary players. There's nothing to write home about. Even the first leg game was the same."
