The 2022 edition of the annual COSAFA Cup is set to take place between 5-17 July in Durban where hosts and defending champions South Africa will be looking to be crowned for a record-equalling sixth time.
Bafana Bafana are once again among the favourites to win this year's tournament and will have been handed a further boost following a double rule change in the build-up to the regional competition.
COSAFA have confirmed that squad sizes for each of the competing nations have been increased from 20 to 23 meaning national team coach Hugo Broos – or David Notoane – will have more options to choose from when they travel to Kwa-Zulu Natal.
"...The COSAFA Executive Committee and Organising Committee for Competitions took the decision to increase the squad sizes for the teams to 23," tournament organisers said in a statement on Tuesday.
"The squads had previously been limited to 20 players, but in line with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) practice of allowing 23 members at their major competitions, COSAFA have followed suit."
It has also been confirmed that coaches will be allowed to use five substitutes during a match which is in line with the recent regulations implemented by the International Football Association Board (IFAB).
