Story Behind My Nickname: AK-47

In this edition of Story Behind My Nickname former sharp-shooter striker Sandile Ndlovu reveals the origin behind his famous nickname "AK-47".

"To be honest it all started when I was scoring goals in Giyani, I think it was my second or third goal," Ndlovu tells snl24.com/kickoff.

"If I remember well in the game against Kaizer Chiefs I didn't celebrate.

"So with the celebration, I was actually doing The Sky is the Limit sign, sending a message to my then-parent club Sundowns that "I will be back!".

"So what followed is, I started noticing that people in Giyani began creating cardboard guns with AK-47 written on them.

"Thereafter I heard veteran football commentators like Joe Hudla referring to me as Ak-47.

"But to be honest my motive behind the celebration was to show Sundowns I was still their player.

"Remember I was at Dynamos on-loan. Honestly speaking I was not happy with that loan move as it came in my first season at Sundowns.

"When Paul Dolezar arrived it seemed like he was interested, seeing that I was still young maybe he needed to groom me. But maybe because he was looking for immediate results he released me on loan.

"That is when big guns like Peter Ndlovu were brought in.

"So I felt I still belonged to Sundowns and wanted to go back there. I didn't believe that once you leave a big team you never make a comeback."
