Nabi to bite, chew, and swallow at Chiefs

Nasreddine Nabi’s second season in charge at Kaizer Chiefs will come with a huge count following all that is happening behind the scenes at the club.

Nabi has taken a front row seat in matters relating to transfers at the club with the promise of taking the Soweto giants back to the Promised Land.

There is a hive of activity for Chiefs in seeking to find reinforcements that will improve their squad that the coach has placed questions on in more departments than one.

Though the side has Bruce Bvuma, Brandon Petersen, and Fiacre Ntwari with Bontle Molefe and Takalani Mazhamba coming up in the goalkeeping department, there is no clear-cut first choice.

Based on those who finished the season on their books, there are no issues in central defence with concerns on the flanks, where Dillan Solomons and Reeve Frosler provide options on the right and Bradley Cross, Happy Mashiane, and Bongani Sam on the left.

The midfield navel has been discussed despite the presence of Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Yusuf Maart, Thabo Cele, Edson Castillo, and Samkelo Zwane.

Further up the midfield areas, Gaston Sirino is leading with Mfundo Vilakazi, Mduduzi Shabalala, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, and Lehlogonolo Matlou all having the creativity.

Out wide, Glody Makabi Lilepo has shown the desire to have a headlight effect.

The biggest concern is up front, where Amakhosi are thin with Tashreeq Morris, Ashley Du Preez, and Wandile Duba as the notable frontmen, and it is for this reason that names have been thrown around with the latest being Flavio Silva.

Nabi doesn’t need to improve Chiefs from the bottom half team that they have been in the last two seasons into one that is challenging for, if not winning, the league.

No fewer than seven signings are expected at the Glamour Boys, who will also be playing in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Nabi will have his influence.

"There is a lot of work being done and I am aware of players that we are currently signing and once that is all sorted out and ready to travel, they will come through," says Jessica Motaung, the marketing and commercial director.

"Obviously, there may be delays with paperwork, but we are certainly working on getting the players to travel to Netherlands.

"The coach is here doing his work, and we need to allow the processes to unfold internally," added Motaung.
