Steve Komphela's PSL career record

Komphela was on Wednesday confirmed as the new head coach of the Glamour Boys, replacing championship-winning coach Stuart Baxter, who has since joined Turkish outfit Genclerbirligi.

Komphela becomes the first local full-time coach at Naturena in 21 years – since Trott Moloto was at the him in 1994 – yet he will feel right at home, having played 34 matches for the Soweto giants in 1993.

The former centre-back also earned 24 national caps in a three-year stint between 1992 and 1995.

Since becoming a coach, Komphela has been in charge of Manning rangers, Dynamos, Platinum Stars and Free State Stars, and was also a caretaker and assistant coach of Bafana Bafana.

Having been at the helm of Maritzburg United for the past two seasons, Komphela led the Team of Choice to an equal 10 wins, 10 draws and 10 losses as they secured their first-ever top-eight finish this past season.

Across all clubs coached in the PSL, this is Komphela’s record:
Matches played: 224
Wins: 79
Draws: 70
Losses: 75
Goals for: 253
Goals against: 239
Points: 307

And with a win percentage a touch over 35 percent, Komphela will be under immediate pressure to increase that tally should he wish to see out his three-year contract with the reigning League champions.
