Shakes backs Bafana replacements for Mashamaite, Furman, Vilakazi, Mashaba for Afcon qualifier with Gambia

PSL Footballer of the Season Mashamaite has been withdrawn from the tie due to family commitments, while Furman (knee), Vilakazi (ankle) and Mashaba (shoulder) have been ruled out with injury.

Mashaba has called up Orlando Pirates defenders Tshepo Gumede and Ntsikelelo Nyauza, Black Leopards' Siphelele Ntshangase and Jabulani Shongwe of Bidvest Wits as replacements.

“It is always difficult to get all the players on the first day, but I am happy with the numbers we have more so because most of them were on holiday and so we need to get going as soon as possible,” Mashaba said.

“It is just a pity that we won’t have the four players who have withdrawn, but such is the game of football. We have already called up replacements and I am confident they will be up to the task because none of them are new to our system.”

Bafana will host Gambia at Durban's Moses Mabhida Stadium, with
Cameroon and Mauritania completing the rest of Group M.

Mashaba's men will afterwards face Angola in a friendly at Cape Town Stadium on June 16. Both matches kick off at 15h00.
