The field was in an embarrassing state when Golden Arrows beat Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 in KwaMashu, Durban on Saturday, with Amakhosi coach Giovanni Solinas afterwards saying he had never seen a South African pitch in such "terrible" nick.
According to PSL official Ronnie Schloss, all the teams that are using the stadium as their home ground will have to use alternative venues going forward.
"The game was allowed to be played there because the pitch was fine two weeks before that," Schloss tells snl24.com/kickoff.
"And then they had a concert there, [a] music festival, and the pitch was damaged. So you know two weeks before that it was in perfect condition."
Asked if the match officials did not inspect the field again before kick-off, Schloss said it was too late to call off the match at that stage with spectators already in the stadium.
"They found out that the pitch was in a bad condition, but they took the decision to carry on with the game and ... their decision is final. Also it's very difficult to call off a game just a couple of hours before because you've got people who bought tickets. A game like that would have attracted 12 000 people and you are looking for trouble. So it's from a safety point of view. So all these factors have to be taken into account as well. They said it could be used ja, otherwise they just took a decision to play. So yes, it was their decision, we can't interfere with that."
Schloss doubts the PSL will take any action against Arrows.
"I doubt it. The clubs don't own the stadiums. Let's put it that way, you know that. It's the municipalities. Yes, of course [we are worried about the PSL brand] and we have closed the ground since. The stadium is being closed indefinitely, ja. Arrows and one of the First Division teams they play there. They will have to find alternative venues."
