PSG's David Luiz says he was not meant to celebrate his goal against former club Chelsea

The Brazilian centre-back, who left Stamford Bridge for Paris last year, brought his side level with a thumping header in Wednesday night’s Champions League Last 16 second leg tie in London.

The game proceeded to extra time, as PSG came away with a 2-2 draw, thus dumping the Premier League leaders out of the continental competition.

And despite saying he would not celebrate if he scored, Luiz said the emotions got the better of him after his 86th-minute equaliser, insisting it was a special moment.

“I respect everyone here and I was very happy here,” Luiz said when asked about his time at Chelsea. “I said I wouldn’t celebrate if I scored but the emotion of the moment meant I couldn’t keep [to that].

“The fact I don’t score many goals means it is always special for me. I am happy with my team as we showed spirit and character.”

Luiz and Chelsea’s Brazilian-born striker Diego Costa were involved in a number of tussles throughout the match, yet the fizzy-haired Selecao international reveals the pair are good friends off the field, and enjoyed a friendly chat after last night’s match.

“It is normal,” Luiz said regarding the on-field altercations between them. “Diego is an amazing player, a top guy and we have a lot of physical [battles]. We are friends and were together after the match. We know each other from before.”

Chelsea now only have the league to fight for this season after their league Cup success, having been knocked out of the FA Cup and now the Champions League respectively.
