Sundowns handed Pirates their worst-ever defeat as they romped to a 6-0 win in Tshwane, sparking ugly scenes as Pirates fans vandalised the stadium before storming the field and attacking Sundowns’ players and fans.
And Mosimane has since revealed how he urged his players to respect their opponents, having even at one stage reprimanded midfielder Percy Tau when he started to juggle with the ball.
When asked about his players’ apparent showboating, Mosimane said: ”I am always against it. I don’t like it.
"You need to respect Pirates. You saw what happened today [with the violence]. Imagine if we started to showboat, worse would have happened because you are playing with the emotions of people.
"There are bragging rights, it’s not nice and that’s why I was angry when Wits did it and no one protected me and it was like sour grapes,” he added.
Even though he grew up in the townships of Soweto where skills and dribbling with the ball are the bread and butter of the people, 'Jingles' says has never been a fan of showboating.
"I know it’s flavour, [fans] love it. It’s good for TV. I know people like it. It’s good for township football. I grew up in a township. I know when you have tricks [you’re like a] top player. In townships, as long as you juggle and do tricks, everybody says you're a good player.
"There are a lot of players in the PSL who do tricks but they don’t go anywhere and you know them. They don’t even play for Bafana Bafana.”
