Pitso Mosimane explains Themba Zwane's reduced minutes

Zwane had been Sundowns' top performer this season, prior to the Covid-19 interruption, as well as in seasons gone by, but he has yet to get going since the PSL restart.

The 31-year-old attacker, who has managed nine goals and five assists this season, has been substituted out early in three of their five games in the bio-bubble, and recently came off the bench in their 2-2 draw with Maritzburg United on Friday evening.

Mosimane has since explained the reason behind his limited minutes and acknowledged his subdued performances of late.

"We need to make changes, the games are many and if we are honest, Themba Zwane is our most important player but since we came back, he hasn't had as much influence on the games as he has had for the last eight years," explained 'Jingles'.

"So, we have to be honest about it and make some necessary changes. Okay, we played Promise [Mkhuma] in his place and he played well, but [Zwane] understands also, we had our talk and he accepts.

"He says, 'Coach, I'm not at my best, I don't know what's happening.' I said, 'Look, it's the way it is so we move on. You have done so well for us for all these years, it's not that we can now feel different about you.'

"We need him, he's an important player, the same as Vilakazi, the same as Sirino. They are not at their best at this point in time and they are key players."
