Michael Ngobeni explains how Covid-19 is affecting football agents, free agents

The local game continues to suffer following the effects of the coronavirus outbreak on the financial side of football, with clubs having to count every bean as sponsorship dries up.

Michael Ngobeni of M Sport Management, who has represented top players during his career such as Kaizer Chiefs star Khama Billiat, says the Covid-19 pandemic has hit the football business very hard.

Even agents are now struggling to sell players.

"Bro, world football is crumbling [because of] Covid, business is low, clubs are broke," Ngobeni tells snl24.com/kickoff.

"The market has changed you see. So as the market changes there are so many players around without clubs. So now you have to do your job clearly in a different angle in order for you to get the market."

Ngobeni elaborates: "So how do you get the market? You have to make sure that you scout you know. Because now clubs can't just sign an average player who is 27, 28 or 30 years old if there's youngsters who actually play for a national team.

"So me as an intermediary, it's one of those things where you have to go back and start from the ground you know. Reason being, you have to go back and scout because clubs they can't just sign average players anymore, because there are average players who are free everywhere."

Ngobeni believes there might still be a solution for this problem though.

"Remember, we work with clubs. Without clubs, there's no us. We just need to tell players to work hard because the market has changed," he says.

"They need to work very hard so that they can attract. Just like when there's so many products in the market and there's no people to buy... it's like an auction, the price will drop."
