Maritzburg United's Siyanda Xulu sidesteps Kaizer Chiefs regret talk

Xulu, 26, barely featured for Amakhosi in a two-year horror spell at Naturena before reviving his career with Maritzburg United this season.

“I don’t think it is fair for me to talk about my former team,” Xulu said twice when pressed about Chiefs' possible remorse over his exit.

The ex-Mamelodi Sundowns defender, who can also operate in central midfield, has played in 36 games in all competitions in 2017/18, scoring three goals for the Team of Choice.

Xulu's displays could well see him nominated for the PSL Defender of the Season prize as he pushes for a return to the Bafana Bafana fold.

He is also in the hunt for team accolades, as Maritzburg will hope to win their first trophy when they face Free State Stars in the Nedbank Cup final at Cape Town Stadium on May 19.

Fadlu Davids' side will first conclude their league campaign against neighbouring Golden Arrows at Harry Gwala Stadium on May 12.

Maritzburg may end as high as third on the table if Chiefs stumble on their trip to Ajax Cape Town in a simultaneous fixture, having achieved a best-ever seventh-placed finish last term.
