The former Bafana Bafana defender has joined Braamfontein-based Wits on a two-and-a-half-year deal after 10 years at Naturena.
The 25-year-old says Amakhosi coach Ernst Middendorp told him straight he was not in his plans anymore despite the service he gave to the club over many years.
"You know, basically I was out of the coach's plans," Gordinho tells snl24.com/kickoff.
"And you know, I wanted to make a move so that I had a better chance of playing and competing. So I heard that Wits were interested, and we spoke to Chiefs, received an offer from Wits and the transfer happened.
"I think it was mutual because when I spoke to Bobby [Motaung] he also said it was important for me to play for my career, so it was not only one-sided, it was mutual between myself and Chiefs.
"You know the coach [Middendorp] at the time told me that he had a plan and his plan worked with the players he selected, and unfortunately I wasn't one of those players.
"That's nothing against me personally, it's just part of the game, which I understand as a professional. We all can't play at the same time and... ja you know it's the best thing because if he hadn't told me that then I wouldn't be able to make a decision for my career.
"I would have just been sitting doing nothing. Ja, everything was mutual."
Gordinho admits it was disheartening not to be given more opportunities at Chiefs after his impressive loan period at Bloemfontein Celtic, which ended in January 2019.
"It was a bit disappointing you know because I went to Celtic to push myself to grow and to come back to Chiefs a stronger, better player you know, so it was disappointing" he admits.
"But you know I'm a professional and I had to take it as it is. It's unfortunate that it happened but these things happen in football with a lot of players, not even just in the country but all over the world."
The centre-back was asked about media reports linking him with a move to Chiefs' rivals Orlando Pirates.
"Rumours from Pirates were just rumours," he replied. "There was no contact made or anything formal. Like I said, Wits were very interested and I spoke to them."
