Khoza: Greedy agent costs to me a job

Former Black Leopards and Witbank Spurs defender Humphrey Khoza  warns players not to be too desperate to appoint those they choose to represent them during this busy transfer window.

Khoza, who currently plays for the newly promoted Motsepe Foundation Championship club The Bees FC from Nkomazi in Mpumalanga, says he once lost out on five offers because of greedy agents.

"I'm still hurting from what happened. I remember this one time I was supposed to sign a contract with Tim Sukazi, who was still a players' agent back then," Khoza tells KickOff.

"I signed with the wrong agent, thinking I was signing with Tim Sukazi. There's this guy who came to me and claimed to be from Tim Sukazi's office.

"That guy came to meet me in Likazi in Mpumalanga, he told me he had been sent to me by Tim Sukazi, and that he had been sent for my signature. And because Tim and I had discussed it before, I suspected nothing. I just signed. Unaware I was signing with a different agent.

"As time went on I discovered that Tim Sukazi knew nothing about my signed contract. That guy who made me sign a contract, appeared to be still new in this thing of representing players?

"He never found me even a single deal, because even the Polokwane City FC discussions happened on its own. The club phoned me directly, and I told them I have an agent. Pointing them to the direction of my self-appointed agent, of course.

"But the deal with Polokwane City didn't go through, of course, as I was not happy with the lack of signing-on fee. They told me straight they won't be able to have it.

"Players should be careful of inexperienced greedy agents, or at least they should get people they know very well to represent them.

"I had five offers but I ended up going back to Witbank Spurs in the National First Division because of that agent. He was asking for too much money from these clubs. Because of that agent, I lost out on five PSL potential moves, and I had to settle for a second tier club."
