Jabulani Mendu positive after Kaizer Chiefs beat AmaZulu

Amakhosi achieved only their second win in the league when they defeated Usuthu 1-0 and will be looking to do the same again on Saturday against Cape Town City.

"Look, they are not really out of the woods, but it's good to see them collecting maximum points. AmaZulu exposed them, AmaZulu were supposed to win the game, we all know that," Mendu tells snl24.com/kickoff.

"But Gavin again showed that he is a quality coach, I mean taking [Daniel] Cardoso in the midfield, you know his substitutions. After that I think they started playing, they started creating, connecting ten, six passes which was good to see.

"Defensively I don't think he's there yet. There's a lot of work to be done, but so far we're happy we collected maximum points."

Mendu says it's a pity the Glamour Boys have to face the Citizens just when they were looking to build on their midweek win.

"Eish, that's the thing, I mean that's another ball-playing team. Another team that you know is comfortable on the ball. The difference is Cape Town City, they score goals you know. Everybody can score goals at Cape Town City, strikers, midfielders, wingers, defenders.

"The only thing I think Gavin will tell the players is, 'Guys, let's not stop doing the right things, let's continue doing the right things, let's stick to the basics.' I mean they're going to turn the corner, one way or another. I think that's important.

"Maybe luck will be on their side. You know if you collect six to nine points, you are top. I think before he goes to Africa he needs to beat Cape Town City, he needs to collect maximum points.

"I mean [Samir] Nurkovic is back! That's a positive, that's a plus. The difference about this [AmaZulu] game and the ones before is that they were putting balls in the box. Because they knew Nurkovic was going to fight for every ball, which he did you know.

"He was supposed to score three [against AmaZulu but he managed one. You look at the goal that he scored, that's a striker's goal. Another striker would have thought he was offside."
