Castro's future has been uncertain since before the start of the season, when he was expected to leave, with the club's most recent statement suggesting Amakhosi are happy to keep him.
However, Chiefs are in a predicament owing to their two-window transfer ban that means they will not be able to sign any new players until January next year.
Castro has also been free to sign a pre-contract with any other club, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season.
Rumours have kept circling that the Uruguayan's stay with Chiefs is not a done deal as long as there is an opportunity to leave, with the player still believed to be eyeing the exit door.
Jabulani Mendu is not buying the story that suddenly Castro wants to stay.
"Coming to Castro, why is he not signing a new contract?" Mendu asks snl24.com/kickoff.
"Because he's got his form back, he's got his mojo back you know, he's exciting to watch. His combination with [Samir] Nurkovic is thrilling to watch!
"When you watch Kaizer Chiefs it's like, 'Wow! These guys play for each other!' They don't care who scores goals but they play to make sure the team wins. So it's exciting.
"But why is Castro not signing a new contract? Do you think he wants to go back to his country? Come on, he's not going back to his country.
"I bet someone [another PSL club] has already spoken to him. You know why? Because let's not forget... let's not blame Castro... Chiefs put Castro on the transfer list. Maybe the boy is still hurt.
"There's more to this than what we've been told or what we can see as well, because we are outside, we can't even tell what's going on inside.
"But from where I'm standing I think he does not want to sign a new contract because the question is, 'But you guys didn't want me here? Why now do you want to sign me?' So if he wants to leave, let him go."
