Hendrick 'Pule' Ekstein comments on Orlando Pirates transfer talk after Sabah exit

Hendrick Ekstein has shed some light on whether he would join Orlando Pirates in this transfer window as he continues his search for a new team.

'Pule' as Ekstein is known in local circles is currently a free agent after parting ways with Azerbaijan side Sabah FC in December last year.

A very reliable source close to the player informs that the likes of Orlando Pirates and Cape Town City have reignited their interest in the former Kaizer Chiefs playmaker.

But the 29-year-old, who has been linked with Pirates ever since he left Naturena, says he will first give preference to another overseas move.

"At the moment my focus is to play overseas," Ekstein tells snl24.com/kickoff.

"Not to say Pirates is a bad team, no, Pirates is a good team. Or any team. I can play in fact at any team whether it's Highlands, AmaZulu... whatever.

"I think to play overseas the way I see it is you grow as a player, and I see football in a different way. You are exposed to a different style of play. You learn more, and you become a better player.

"I want to go back overseas you see. Since I was a young boy I've been dreaming of playing overseas. Ja, any time from now I might leave.

"Which country I'm not sure because my agent hasn't told me anything yet except that options are there. It's just for him to finalise things."

Ekstein was second on the list of assists by a foreigner in the Azerbaijan league last year with four and also scored three goals in 16 appearances.
