Mayele responds to Chiefs rumours

Pyramids striker Fiston Mayele has refused to entertain rumours that have been linking him to Kaizer Chiefs since the beginning of the season and wants to focus on the CAF Champions League final against Mamelodi Sundowns in Tshwane on Saturday.

Mayele was linked with a move to Chiefs at the beginning of the season after being recommended to the club by coach Nasreddine Nabi. However, the deal failed to materialize, and the Congolese striker opted to stay in Cairo and lead Pyramids to the CAF Champions League final.

Both Mayele and Nabi worked together at Young Africans in Tanzania before the Tunisian coach moved to South Africa to join Amakhosi during the 2024/5 season.

The Pyramids striker has confirmed his conversation with Nasreddine Nabi after contacting him in December last year.

“Yes, it's true. The coach Nabi was in contact with me in December. But this is not the right moment to talk about it. I am focused on the final (CAF Champions League) .”I want to stay focused on the final and finish the season, then I can talk, but at the moment, this is not the priority for now”, Mayele told KickOff.com at their training base in Pretoria ahead of the final on Saturday.

Mayele is expected to lead Pyramids when taking on Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League final at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday.

“I am happy to be here and try to help the team win. I was happy to score during the last match against Orlando Pirates. I am happy to play in the final, the first final for the club in the CAF Champions League”."I can't say I will score but forsure I want to help the team play well and that’s why I am here", he added.
