Erasmus hints at move to PSL club

With rumours swirling around regarding the next move for 'dynamite in small package' Kermit Erasmus, the former Orlando Pirates striker has admitted he is close to signing for a PSL club.

Erasmus has been without a club since his contract was not renewed by Pirates in July 2024 and had been training on his own until recently.

He was initially linked with a move to Cape Town Spurs, where he had a training stint, but nothing came of it.

It is understood the well-travelled forward then returned home to Gqeberha, after talks with Gauteng teams were also not successful, and has been training with Chippa United since towards the end of 2024.

The player has admitted to currently training with the Chilli Boys, hopeful of a deal materializing.

"This is my first time being at home since I left home in the early 2000s, when I left home to join the (SuperSport United) academy. It's been almost 20 years," Erasmus said on SoccerBeat YouTube Channel.

"It's been great, having to train also in a group setting, it's something I've missed. It's not easy training on your own, motivating yourself.

"So, having a team I can train with and hopefully join ... you never know ... it's a huge possibility. it would be nice to play in front of my cousins, my aunts, friends I grew up with, because they haven't really seen me live that often. Having that opportunity is something I'm looking forward to and hoping it will materialize," he went on.

Erasmus made his breakthrough in the pro ranks in the Netherlands, after he was signed by Feyenoord in 2008 from the SuperSport academy.

However, he rejoined Matsatsantsa two years later on a free transfer and three years later was signed by The Buccaneers.

He spent three seasons there, before being transferred to Stade Rennais in France, and later had spells in Sweden and Portugal, prior to returning to the PSL again via Cape Town City in 2019.

It took him one year and six months to earn a move to Mamelodi Sundowns, where he spent two seasons, before linking up with the Soweto giants again.
