Players Union put blame on beleaguered PSL club

The Football Union of South Africa (FUSA) has stated that the management of a PSL club should acknowledge their oversight following drama that took place last weekend.

Last week, Black Leopards club expressed shock upon learning they could not register their new recruits due to a FIFA ban imposed on them.

During their 2025/26 season opener against Casric Stars last weekend, the side could only field 10 players, with captain and defender Thendo Mukumela taking on the role of goalkeeper.

They ended up losing 3-0.

Reports indicate that a foreign player lodged a complaint with FIFA regarding unpaid debts owed to him by All Stars, the club whose status Leopards bought in 2023.

As Lidoda Duvha purchased the club along with its debts, they are now facing the consequences.

The Limpopo-based outfit claim that when they acquired All Stars, the club was debt-free.

Attempts to reach Leopards chairman Chief Thidiela for a comment fell flat.

"The recent debacle involving Black Leopards FC's acquisition of All Stars FC's status raises serious concerns about due diligence," FUSA secretary Taelo Motloung says, speaking to KickOff.com.

"It's unacceptable for them to claim ignorance about outstanding issues, especially with legal representation involved in the sale.

"As a league, we expect our member clubs to operate with professionalism and integrity. FIFA's regulations are clear, and clubs must adhere to them.

"We urge South African clubs to take note: FIFA is not a local DRC where non-compliance is tolerated. We must uphold standards and prioritize transparency, accountability, and good governance.

"The integrity of our league depends on it."

Leopards will do battle against University of Pretoria at Tuks Stadium on Sunday at 15:00.
