Shaky ground: 'Sundowns will continue to dominate'

With the Mamelodi Sundowns camp currently on shaky ground, The Brazilians have been advised on how to navigate their way to calmer waters with Stellenbosch FC up next.

Sundowns are appear to be in a period of struggle as head coach Miguel Cardoso works to integrate new players into the team.

Following an MTN8 semi-final exit last weekend, the Tshwane giants drew 0-0 against Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Wednesday.

"No team can perform at the same level for 10 years, which is why Sundowns are no longer playing as we know them," says ex-defender Thabo Nthete.

"Now is the time for the players, technical team, and management to come together and work hard to regain their good form.

"Every game will be difficult for them because no team wants to lose to Sundowns. It's unrealistic to expect them to win forever, even though everyone anticipates it.

"The supporters are calling for Cardoso and Flemming Berg to be replaced, but the team doesn’t need that. They have performed well for years, and now, after only a few poor games, we're criticising them?" added the 2016 CAF Champions League winner.

The erstwhile centre-back believes Sundowns still have a strong team.

"The reason fans are asking about Peter Shalulile, for example, is because the team is struggling, and they know his potential. However, there are no guarantees that his presence on the field will ensure victory.

"The team will return to its best and will continue to dominate. Supporters need to back whoever is on the pitch because every player representing Sundowns is among the best, as Sundowns consistently recruit top talent from other teams."

The Chloorkop-based side face Stellenbosch in their next Betway Premiership fixture at Athlone Stadium on Saturday at at 15:00.
