DStv Premiership match report Swallows FC v SuperSport United 27 April 2021

Swallows made no further than three changes with Sifiso Hlanti, Fawaaz Basadien and Joseph Mhlongo coming back into the side while United coach Kaitano Tembo welcomed back Bradley Grobler and Keenan Phillips.

It seemed a lively opening was on the cards following an energetic start from in particular Matsatsantsa through Sipho Mbule, who picked out Moses Waiswa in the box but the midfileder was unable to make proper contact.

Swallows looked to go wide and deliver balls into the six-yard area with Mhlongo amongst others central in this regard, but Matsatsantsa held ground albeit temporarily.

This particular invention from the Dube Birds reaped benefits in the final minute of the half when Basadien propped up unmarked at the far post to head home Lebohang Mokoena's cross.

Matsatsantsa made a substitution ahead of the second half in order to chase down the result, as Iqraam Rayners made way for pacey winger Guily Manziba.

As the Dube Birds seemed to drop deep ten minutes after halftime, United attempted to pull level through a scorching strike from Mbule but goalkeeper Virgil Vries was equal to the task.

Swallows continued to see little possession and Matsatsantsa nearly had the equaliser after five minutes following a corner-kick, but substitute Junaid Sait headed from the goal-line.

However, the Dube Birds recovered ground towards the last 20 minutes and put goalkeeper George Chigova to the test with a low curling strike from Daniel Gozar.

SuperSport still plucked away following the remaining 15 minutes and were all square through a pin-point header from Mbule from an equally pin-point cross by Phillips.

Both sides had chances for the winner late on through Gozar and Kgaogelo Sekgota for Swallows followed by Grobler for the away side, but it ended 1-1 to leave Swallows fifth and United winless in nine matches.
