Swallows extend unbeaten run after PLK City stalemate

Polokwane City and Moroka Swallows played to a goalless draw in DStv Premiership action on Saturday afternoon.

Swallows showed up with one change following the win over TS Galaxy with Thabang Maponya installed in the place of Lindokuhle Mtshali, and Oswin Appollis present for City following his national team call-up.

The home team, who needed a late equaliser in midweek to force a 1-1 draw against SuperSport United, surrendered fifth spot to the Dube Birds outfit that got over the line against Galaxy.

It was a pretty tense opening with the two teams sussing out each other and unable to find the back of the net as it remained score-less.

After the water-break, a lot of the same sequence followed suit and ultimately saw the match conclude goalless at the close of the first period.

In the second half, Rise and Shine showed a double change in Puleng Marema for Ndumiso Mabena before Hlayisi Chauke vacated to have Douglas Mapfumo come on for him.

The contest remained tightly poised after the break, as the two teams continued to find the going tough in the closing third.

Swallows made their first change and debuted youngster Owethu Khumalo in the final stages of the match, with Maponya the one making way for him.

In the end, the two outfits were unable to make the deadlock and had to settle for a point each which leaves their current positions on the league standings unchanged.
