DStv Premiership match report Marumo Gallants v Golden Arrows 07 May 2022

Golden Arrows remain outside top eight in the DStv Premiership after being held to goalless draw by Marumo Gallants on Saturday afternoon.

Gallants made three changes from the defeat against Kaizer Chiefs, as they recalled goalkeeper Washington Arubi, Letsie Koapeng and Edgar Manaka while Arrows brought back strikers Knox Mutizwa and Nqobeko Dlamini.

Dan Malesela's charges had a good opportunity to take an early lead in the tenth minute from a free-kick just outside the box but they fluffed the set-piece.

The hosts continued to put Abafana Bes'thende under pressure and nearly broke the deadlock just before the half-hour mark from a corner but the header in the box missed wide.

Arrows came to life in the last ten minutes of the first stanza and Velemseni Ndwandwe had their best chance in the last third after having a sight of goal but he could not find the target as the sides went into the halftime break deadlocked.

Bahlabane Ba Ntwa had another chance to break the deadlock three minutes into the second stanza with a free-kick from the edge of the box but they were denied by goalkeeper Sifiso Mlungwana.

However, chances were hard to come by after that and in the 67th minute, Arrows made a double change for fresh legs, as Michael Gumede replaced Mutizwa and Sbonelo Cele came on for Nduduzo Sibiya.

Both sides needed some inspiration in the closing stages but neither took the game by the scruff of the neck and they shared the spoils in the end.
