DStv Premiership match report Golden Arrows v Sekhukhune United 23 April 2022

Golden Arrows started life without coach Lehlohonolo Seema with a goalless draw against Sekhukhune United in the DStv Premiership on Saturday afternoon.

There were a change between the sticks for Arrows as Sifiso Mlungwana returned and Knox Mutizwa started on the bench from the 6-0 drubbing by the league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

Abafana Besthende looked to stabilise proceedings earlier on, but were nearly behind in the opening seconds as Chibuike Ohizu snapped a loose ball in the area way over target.

Sekhukhune, who just appointed the experienced Owen Da Gama as co-coach, began to feel the pressure as shots from Nduduzo Sibiya and Saziso Magawana kept Toaster Nsabata busy.

Babina Noko began to grow in confidence before the half-hour mark, but Arrows still enjoyed the lion share of chances with Velemseni Ndwandwe on the end of a one-two outside the area.

The closing exchanges of the half became evenly balanced as chances fell either way with a speculative drive from Yusuf Maart and a galloping header by Magawana.

Sekhukhune went for a change after halftime which saw Willard Katsande replace Tshediso Patjie with Abafana Besthende unchanged from the first spell.

The host enjoyed little freedom in possession and in advanced areas following the earlier exchanges of the half, as Babina Noko camped thoroughly in their passage.

Abafana Besthende were able to regain momentum midway in the second half and flashed the near post of the net following a snap-shot on the turn by Michael Gumede.

It was a lively closing period for the two as countless turnovers in possession culminated in a few half-openings which neither side capitalised therefore it finished goalless.
