DStv Premiership match report Cape Town City v Swallows 18 December 2021

Ten-man Cape Town City got back to winning ways in the DStv Premiership with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Swallows on Saturday evening.

Tashreeq Morris was deployed up top by City who recalled Nathan Fasika and Abbubaker Mobara in defence, while Swallows stuck with the same eleven that battled against Orlando Pirates.

Swallows looked to hit the front on six minutes through a side-footed effort in the area from Lebohang Mokoena off a ball on the left-side, but he was smothered by goalkeeper Hugo Marques.

The Citizens struggled to settle and the Dube Birds took advantage 12 minutes later when Monnapule Saleng pounced on a loose pass from Thato Mokeke for a smart finish.

City looked for a response through a quickly taken free-kick moments apart, but Fagrie Lakay clattered the upright from a tight angle.

Swallows maintained advantage and inadvertently saw City go down to ten players after Mobara committed a professional, which then drew the introduction of Keanu Cupido for Morris.

Swallows maintained their commanding spell after halftime and should've been two to the good through Gamidlen earlier on, but Marques saved superbly.

The save urged the Citizens to life and with over 60 minutes in, the leveller followed when Fasika reacted to a loose ball from a corner and pounced from close-range.

The Citizens should've gone ahead within seconds after Lakay beat the offside trap to get on the end of a ball into space, but he fired wide.

City completed the turnaround in the last eight minutes when a cleverly taken free-kick outside the area from Mpho Makola left February rooted en-route to bulging the net.

Makola should've had a brace in the dying stages from a smart delivery in the area, but he battered the underside of the crossbar as Eric Tinkler's charges held on for the 2-1 triumph.
