Zulu, who scored one of the best goal in the first half last season against Orlando Pirates, couldn't recapture the form that saw him called up to Bafana Bafana back in August 2014.
The former Black Leopards striker returned to the Port Elizabeth-based club on a six-month loan deal, along with Sbongiseni Ngcobo, in a deal which saw midfielder William Twala join Chiefs last week.
Zulu started is first game just three days after his return, when the Chippa beat Golden Arrows 2-0 at the Chartsworth Stadium in Durban on Saturday.
The 29-year-old has since revealed his reason for leaving Naturena for a return to the Nelson Mandela Bay, and says he feared getting ‘lost’ on the sidelines.
"Yes, I can say that [game-time was a factor]. As a player, I was motivated to have more game-time, because many people know me as football player," said Zulu.
"It is tough to just sit in the stands and people just forget about you, but I can think of many other [reasons].
“When you're a player, you want to play and sometimes you get lost when you don't play [for too long].
"You feel sometimes you not good enough, and my decision was inspired by myself, [in order for me to] recover and see what happens at the end of the season."
Zulu also says he learnt many lessons during his first year at Chiefs, and believes his return to Chippa is not a step back in his career.
"At Chiefs I learnt so many things on how to behave as a footballer, and also how to handle pressure," he added.
"[Being at Chiefs] opened my mind; I grew as a player in terms of life, because I made better decision when I was there, but life goes on.
“To me, I see this as a step forward, and it’s not like a two step back. I'm here now and this is where I will play."
The Kwa-Zulu Natal-born attacker was also once the top scorer, with 16 goals, back in the 2013/14 National First Division season with Leopards.
