Black Leopards sign Zambian utility defender Donashano Malama

Black Leopards have made another signing in an unprecedentedly high-profile transfer window for the Limpopo club.

Lidoda Duvha have added Zambia international defender Donashano Malama to a squad that has already been bolstered by the likes of Thabo Matlaba, Thuso Phala, Mogakolodi Ngele and Cuthbert Malajila.

The 27-year-old spent the second half of the 2018/19 season at Chippa United, where he made seven appearances in all competitions, but could not agree terms on a new contract.

The Chipolopolo international, who played for Nkana in his home country, also had a stint with Moroccan club Olympic Khouriba in January 2018.

According to Leopards manager Elijah Mulaudzi, the utility defender has signed a one-year deal.

"Ja it happened yesterday, it's one year plus one-year option," Mulaudzi tells snl24.com/kickoff.

"With the experience he has, he is a Zambian national team player and he is good, he plays as a utility player. He can play as a right-back, he can play as a centre-back, he can play as a holding midfielder.

"At least there we've invested a lot because if you can get a person who can cover so well and nice, it's rare in South Africa to get players who can cover three, four positions."

Asked if they were now done in the market, Mulaudzi said that will depend on the technical team.

"I think it also depends on the technical team. If the technical team says they need to have this and this then we'll go, but so far I think they are happy as well with the signings. Unless those agencies are bringing Cristiano Ronaldo, [then] you can't refuse."
