Bidvest Wits hampered by unavailability of Bidvest Stadium

With the Clever Boys just a point behind joint leaders Kaizer Chiefs and Golden Arrows, and two games behind, Gavin Hunt's troops will be keen to take advantage of playing a day earlier than the front runners.

A win tonight could see Wits move up to 16 points, and any slip-ups by Chiefs and Arrows will hand them the lead for at least the next two weeks.

The Milpark-based side are one of only two teams – the other being Orlando Pirates – still unbeaten in the 2016/17 league campaign, with four wins and one draw from the opening five games.

Disturbances caused by university students demanding that 'fees must fall' at their Bidvest Stadium base has forced Wits to accept playing at the underutilised venue in Soweto.

Hunt has grumbled about the change of venue, but is well aware that 'life goes on' this evening as they play game number eight since they were last at their traditional home in Milpark.

The last time they were at their beloved home was in the first leg of the MTN8 against Cape Town City on September 10, and since then games against Polokwane City, Cape Town City, Baroka FC, Free State Stars, Ajax Cape Town and Bloemfontein Celtic have all been away fixtures, barring their MTN8 final against Mamelodi Sundowns that was played at a neutral venue in Nelspruit.

Wits will again be travelling for the next match against Platinum Stars to be played at Royal Bafokeng Stadium on November 19.
