Pirates' next cup opponents make first signing

Polokwane City have made their first signing of the off-season after snatching a defender from a side that finished the season in the lower half of the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Rise and Shine finished the 2024/25 Betway Premiership campaign in seventh spot, thus booking themselves a ticket to the MTN 8 tournament next term.

They punched above their weight in managing to collect 34 points from 28 games.

This then means the Limpopo-based outfit will face defending champions Orlando Pirates in the quarterfinals of the MTN8 when the upcoming season gets underway.

They have signed Mpho Mvundlela from Pretoria Callies.

According to sources, City are also targeting two more players from the Tshwane club, in Moremi Seketso and Olerato Mandi, in a bid to further reinforce their squad.

“Polokwane City is always doing their business away from the media. They are busy signing a few players. Mvundlela from Pretoria Callies has already signed, whilst two more players from Callies are coming,” confirmed a source.

Meanwhile, the club owned by Johnny Mogaladi is reported to be ready to listen to offers for the services of midfielder Oswin Appollis.

The Bafana Bafana attacker was on the wanted list of the Gauteng giants and a few teams from North Africa.
