Mulenga closing in on return to action

The latest situation faced by Zambian forward Augustine Mulenga following his release by AmaZulu at the end of last season has been disclosed.

Mulenga was among 10 players who previously played for either Kaizer Chiefs or Orlando Pirates released by the club at the end of last season.

The 32-year-old has spent the past four years playing in the DStv Premiership having started out with Orlando Pirates in January 2018 before switching to AmaZulu.

The attacker ruptured his tendon while at Usuthu that forced him to undergo surgery.

"He is okay now and we are just trying to finalise a short-term deal for him here in Zambia," says Mulenga's manager Nawa Nyambe.

"The club that he joins will depend on the offer that will be on the table.

"He is not training with ZANACO anymore because they couldn't agree on contract terms.

"The plan is that he plays here until January so that we can push for a move abroad again by then.

"He has recovered now which is why he even played in a number of friendly games for them," says Nyambe while clarifying the links to Richards Bay.

"Richards Bay did make inquiries but I suppose it was a case of checking if he is okay now so that is how far it went," he adds.

Meanwhile, former Orlando Pirates winger Austin Muwowo is back in South Africa this weekend.

Muwowo is now in the books of ZESCO United who play Royal AM in the second round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The first leg will take place on Sunday afternoon at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

The Zambian winger joined Pirates from Nkana in July 2019 but so bad was his battle for game time that he only played twice in his first season before pushing his tally to seven for the second.

With such struggles, Pirates then whisked him away to Swallows on loan at the start of last season where he only enjoyed minutes through the month of December before falling away again to end up with a mere six appearances.

He has featured prominently for ZESCO since joining.
