Change of wheels for Pirates this week

Orlando Pirates will be forced to play without Sipho Chaine for the first time in the Betway Premiership this season, leaving Darren Keet as the only ever-present in the league.

Chaine has played every minute in the league for Pirates this season, where he has now established himself as the first choice through tripling his value.

The 28-year-old has pushed himself from starting at the back of the queue upon arriving September 2022 to firmly holding on as first-choice keeper.

Pirates have played 16 league games and Chaine has been between the posts in all of them from his first against Chippa United to the most recent against Marumo Gallants.

Unfortunately, his appearance in the defeat to Gallants came with his fourth yellow card of the season.

This has left him suspended for the match against Chippa United on Wednesday at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

With Chaine out, it will then pave way for Melusi Buthelezi to play his second match of the season after keeping goals in the Nedbank Cup.

Also suspended for the midweek games is the Kaizer Chiefs pair of Thabo Cele and Gaston Sirino, plus SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt and another seven players at different clubs.

Chaine's suspension elevates Keet to standing as the only ever-present this season in the league.

The 35-year-old has played every minute for Cape Town City in the league.
